How the ISTH Early Career Committee is shaping the future of thrombosis and hemostasis

In this article, Renee Eslick, BMed, FRACP, FRCPA, discusses exciting new initiatives of the ISTH Early Career Committee. She also shares early career activities taking place at the ISTH 2024 Congress, including the Early Career Lounge. Plan to stop by and visit!

The ISTH Early Career Committee aims to engage, support and advocate for early career professionals at the Society. This is achieved through a number of different initiatives targeted at early career members. The Committee is heavily involved in planning activities at the annual Congress, including the opening Early Career Session and lounge activities where attendees can meet and collaborate with fellow early career members.

In addition, the Early Career Committee has a biannual career development webinar on key topics of interest to the early career community, such as “preparing a successful abstract” and “what makes a great scientific presentation.” An annual editorial is published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, canvassing additional relevant topics, from coping with setbacks, to challenges facing early career women in the field.

ISTH Early Career Spotlight

The Early Career Committee looks forward to launching an Early Career Open Forum in June 2024, which will provide a collaborative online space wherein our early career members can engage with others, form network and discuss issues. The Early Career Open Forum will also provide an space to learn more about what the ISTH can offer early career members, including fellowship programs, how to engage with the ISTH Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC), as well as volunteer opportunities for early career members.

At the ISTH 2024 Congress in Bangkok, we invite you to visit the ISTH Early Career Lounge—we have a number of exciting activities planned! Learn how to get more out of your Congress experience by reviewing our First-Timer’s Guide, then join us over lunch to hear tips from those who have received ISTH Fellowship and Fundamental Research Career Development Awards.

There will be an exciting opportunity to hear from fellow early career members with top-scoring abstracts in our “Early Career Professionals in the Spotlight” session, plus a chance to formally connect with others in a peer mentoring program. On the final day of Congress, join us in the Early Career Lounge for a formal meet-and-greet with the Early Career Committee, followed by a social Congress wrap-up. Don’t miss these exciting activities!
