Obesity is a risk factor for various diseases. There is an increased deposition of extravascular fibrin(ogen) in obese adipose tissues and liver. Woosuk Steve Hur, Ph.D., discusses the aim of the team to determine the molecular mechanisms by which fibrinogen-macrophage interaction drives diet-induced obesity and metabolic sequelae. The study identifies a positive impact of elevating glycine consumption on the development of HFD-induced metabolic sequelae and coagulation function. A novel mechanism that leads to metabolic changes regulating hemostatic/thrombotic potential are discussed.
